What are Blood Spots?
Blood spots are also known as campbell de morgan’s’, or cherry haemangiomas, seen as bright red superficial vascular blemishes. that often appear on the skin as dome shaped or slightly raised red blemishes. They lie just under the surface of the skin and can greatly vary in size.
They can be flat, raised or dome shaped (campbell de morgan) found in clusters on the trunk of the body, arms, and scalp, but can occur anywhere.
What causes Blood Spots?
Blood Spots are generally caused by genetics, as part of the ageing process, certain medications, chemical exposure, diabetes, skin trauma, and pregnancy. Most people aged over the age of 30, will have at least one. They are more common in men than in women. Blood spots are not painful, but they if scratched they can bleed due to being very close to the skin surface.
How are Blood Spots removed?
They are removed with high frequency current, using a very fine probe placed on the skins surface and a little heat cauterises and seals of the vascular blemish. Results are usually instantaneous, though larger ones, can take up to a week to fade, and may need more than one treatment up to 4-6 weeks later.
